Pet portraits from photos
I often get asked if I create my pet portraits from photos, the answer is yes! This is for many reasons which we’ll explore below.
It also allows me to take draw pets from all across the world…In this blog post I’m going to share about a recent commission from a client for 4 custom dog portraits, sent from my studio in England all the way to United States of America.
I hand-draw each detail of your pet using coloured pencils.
4 recent dog portrait commissions…Hunter, Star, Buddy and Winnie!
All 4 portraits pictured together, I can’t wait to see how my client displays these in her home!

Personalised pet portrait
Although together we choose a reference photo for the ‘main pose’, each pet portrait is customisable to your vision. This means if you wish for me to enhance a feature of your pet or leave out a detail I can do that, no problem. Perhaps your dog’s appearance has changed with age and you wish for me to capture how they looked in their younger years.

Memorial pet portrait
Although in this case the portraits were not memorial portraits, it’s a common reason behind getting a pet portrait commissioned. In this case working from a photograph is the best option.

Pet portrait from an old photo
Perhaps you have an old photo that is sentimental to you…this could be a physical photograph. I have experience working from lower-quality photographs. Please get in touch to enquire if you’re unsure about the suitability of a photo.
Family pet portrait
If you have multiple pets I can combine them into one family pet portrait drawing. You don’t need a photo of all of the pets next to one another, through the magic of art I can create a unique portrait. I even have experience drawing humans with their pets!
